About Mohamed Muhsin


Mohamed Muhsin, is a Strategic Management Consultant and heads MVM & Associates, a Management Consultancy firm based in Washington DC. He is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. He serves as a Director and Adviser on several international corporate and foundation Boards. Muhsin retired from the World Bank in 2005 after 17 years of service where he held the position of Vice President & CIO, during the tenure of World Bank President James D. Wolfensohn. As CIO he led a major effort to align information technology with the organization’s business strategy; successfully implementing major reforms in information and knowledge management, enterprise resource and business systems, global telecommunications, and video conferencing.


He served in Zambia for 12 years, as the Group Financial Director of Zambia’s Industrial & Mining and Industrial conglomerate ZIMCO, under the Chairmanship of the then President of Zambia, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda during which time Muhsin also served the President as an Advisor on state enterprise reform.

In the seventies, Muhsin worked in Sri Lanka in senior positions at the Hayleys Group of companies a leading Blue Chip conglomerate, under the chairmanship of D.S. Jayasundera the renowned business leader in Sri Lanka.

A product of Trinity College Kandy in Sri Lanka during the principalship of C.J. Oorloff, he was the Senior Prefect and valedictorian who was awarded the Ryde Gold Medal for the Best All-rounder. Muhsin was also a free lance financial guest writer, a sports correspondent and columnistof the erstwhile Times of Ceylon. He remains a guest writer to the media.

Muhsin is a strong proponent of the use of Information Technology to further economic development among the poor and the underprivileged. He was featured along with World Bank President Jim Wolfenshon in the Harvard Business School Case Study (Enabling Business Strategy with IT at the World Bank). He was also a Keynote speaker at various events including the Microsoft Government Leaders Summit (e-Partneship@ Global Village), the CISCO CIO Summit, the International Symposium on the Network Economy & Economic Government in Beijing (Global Knowledge Sharing and Local Development), The E-Transformation Conference in New Delhi (e-nabling a Better World), The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Annual Convention (Bridging the Digital Divide: e-Business and Globalization) the India NASSCOM Leadership Forum in Mumbai (From the Internet on the Bullock Cart to e-Prosperity in India), and the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the South Asia Federation of Accountants. Muhsin was also the cover page feature (Vision from Afar) of the Lanka Monthly Digest (LMD).
